Seend’s supply getting an upgrade
Investment of nearly £500,000 to ensure the quality of water supply in Seend will be taking place in the second half of 2026.
Wessex Water will complete two projects to replace ageing water mains within the village between July and November as part of a drive to ensure the reliability of water provided to local customers and businesses is enhanced.
The work will see the current main running through the village replaced with new plastic pipes in two locations in Bollands Hill and then Seend Hill.
Seend residents took the opportunity to find out more about the enhancements at a community drop-in session hosted by Wessex Water in the village’s community centre in early June, where members of the project team were on hand to present further details and answer questions.
Wessex Water design engineer David Tennant said: “These essential projects are part of our ongoing programme to tackle pipes that are prone to bursting.
“By replacing them with new, more modern pipes, we’re helping to ensure improved water quality and a more reliable supply for the local community.
He added: “We’ve worked closely with Wiltshire Council to keep these closures to the shortest time possible as well as speaking to businesses and the school in the village so that they are aware of the projects.
“We’re also ensuring there are plenty of warning signs, both within and beyond the village, to ensure road users along the A361 are aware of the impact of the work.
“We’ll be working hard to finish these projects as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.’’
Bollands Hill will be closed to through traffic between the junction with the A361 and Pelch Lane for 10 weeks between Monday 13 July and Friday 18 September to allow the first project in the west of the village to take place.
A diversion via Bollands Hill, A365 (Bath Road) and A361 (High Street/Seend Hill) will be in place.
Then the A361 (High Street/Seend Hill) and top of Inmarsh Lane will be closed to through traffic from the junction with Spout Lane to outside Hill Farm House for eight weeks from Monday 5 October to Friday 27 November.
A diversion via Seend Hill, A365 (Bath Road), The Spa Roundabout and Western Way, Melksham, A350 and A361 (Trowbridge Road) will be in use, while the Inmarsh Lane diversion will be via Inmarsh Lane and Bell Hill.
Having written to customers prior to the drop-in session at the start of June, Wessex Water will be writing to the village again ahead of the start of work in July, with the letter including a map detailing the work and a question and answer sheet addressing the most common queries.
