SEEND & DISTRICT THEATRE CLUB

Contact: Sylvia Ewin - 01380 828325

Committee: Sylvia Ewin – Chairman; Marion Whitehead – Treasurer; Jane Coles, Tony Ewin, Pauline Robertson.

The Club was formed in 1998 as a result of the Village Appraisal, and the first AGM was held in the WI Hall in January 1999. Since the initial 35 people who joined, membership has gradually increased to the present number of 110 in 2017, some of whom come from surrounding villages and Devizes.

Our aim is to arrange about eight trips a year to theatres, concerts and ballets. We attend one open air event in the summer when we take along our picnics, and we are usually lucky with the weather. We travel by coach, and sometimes by the Seend Shuttle (the village minibus), to venues such as the Theatre Royal Bath, the Salisbury Playhouse, the Watermill Theatre at Newbury, the Bristol Hippodrome, and concerts in Bath Abbey etc. Twice we have been up to London to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the South Bank. We are able to make group bookings so that theatre tickets are cheaper than they would be if individually booked.

This is an excellent way for people to enjoy an evening out at the theatre with a group of good friends, without the trouble of driving in the dark, parking etc. New members are always welcome, but if you are unsure about joining, just come on one trip before committing yourself – to make sure you enjoy the experience! Current membership cost is £4 per annum.
